Oklahoma football: Sooners fans ready to end Spencer Rattler-Sam Howell debate for good

Oklahoma football fans have no time for the debate between Spencer Rattler and Sam Howell after North Carolina was upset in Week 1.

North Carolina played Virginia Tech on Friday night, but Oklahoma fans came out winners as well.

When the Hokies upset the No. 10 Tar Heels, they gave Sooners fans ammunition in the offseason debate about whether Spencer Rattler or Sam Howell is the better quarterback.

Howell had a rough night, throwing three interceptions while his team fell at Lane Stadium. He didn’t look like a Heisman contender. North Carolina definitely didn’t look capable of making him one either. Oklahoma fans absolutely loved it.

Basically, everyone who had been going to bat for Rattler had a lot to say on Friday night and everyone who had been a Howell stan went quiet.

Someone even spent much of the evening retweeting cold takes claiming Howell is better than Rattler.

One game doesn’t settle the debate, especially since Rattler hasn’t taken the field yet this season. Everyone will be expecting a big performance from him against Tulane on Saturday.

Howell has time to bounce back. Rattler has time to trip up. The race for the Heisman Trophy and first-round NFL draft status has only just begun. For now, it’s advantage Rattler fans.
