College football has never felt more “back” than it did on Friday when the Virginia Tech football team entered Lane Stadium to “Enter Sandman.”

Virginia Tech has one of the best entrances in college football and they haven’t gotten to show it off for far too long.

When they opened their season on Friday against North Carolina, the return of “Enter Sandman” felt like the official return of college football.

Even from within an apparently hermetically sealed press box, “Enter Sandman” and the cheers of the Virginia Tech faithful are immense.

After a very different 2020 season, the 2021 campaign has an all-bets-off feel to it. On Thursday night, Minnesota punched Ohio State in the mouth with an ultimately unsuccessful upset bid thanks to the energy of their home crowd.

On Friday, the Hokies have a chance to do the same to the No. 10 Tar Heels with a rowdy crowd of fans at Lane Stadium cheering them on.

Whatever happens, everyone got to enjoy “Enter Sandman” again and that’s beautiful.
