Notre Dame football’s Michael Mayer wasted no time living up to his nickname as Baby Gronk with impressive highlights vs. Florida State.

Michael Mayer is working on becoming a household name just one game into the new Notre Dame football season.

The big-time tight end who looks and plays like Rob Gronkowski had a starring role for the Irish early on in Sunday night’s game against Florida State.

In the first half, Mayer had five catches for 89 yards and a touchdown to lead all players.

Folks on Twitter were all about the Baby Gronk comparison.

It’s not like this is something new for Mayer. As a freshman in 2020, he tied Javon McKinley for the team lead with 42 receptions. He racked up 450 yards and two touchdowns along the way.

He even led Notre Dame with seven catches for 63 yards against Alabama in the College Football Playoff game at the Rose Bowl.

The more people who watch him play, the more seem to get it.

The Athletic named Mayer to their Freshman All-Americ team while he made the All-ACC third team.

This season, expect him to be one of Jack Coan’s favorite targets. He’s a year older and should be even more capable of punishing opposing defenses.
