The Florida State marching band honors Bobby Bowden at halftime of the Notre Dame game.

In one of the cooler moments of Week 1 in college football, the Florida State marching band honored the late Bobby Bowden during their halftime performance vs. Notre Dame on Sunday night.

The legendary former head coach of the Florida State football team passed away at the age of 91 due to pancreatic cancer in early August. His health had deteriorated largely in the last year, but his legacy lives on. He won two national championships at Florida State, helping the Seminoles become one of the greatest programs in the history of college football. Bowden will be missed.

You have to believe Bowden was there in spirit to take in a great game between his beloved ‘Noles and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Despite being very much a rebuilding team, the Seminoles nearly shocked the powerhouse Golden Domers in overtime at home. While Mike Norvell’s program came up short, you have to like where he has the football program heading in year two.

Without Bowden, Florida State football does not become a national power in college football.
