Former New York Yankees great Derek Jeter thanked the Hall of Fame baseball writers for voting for him, except the one who didn’t.

It was a foregone conclusion that Derek Jeter would be entered into the Baseball Hall of Fame. That didn’t stop one voter from denying him a vote, because that’s what baseball writers do.

At the Hall of Fame induction ceremony, Jeter had words for that one writer.

“Thank you to the baseball writers, all but one of you, who voted for me,” Jeter said.

The crowd loved it.

Why wouldn’t a writer vote for Jeter as a Hall of Famer? It’s all political. The baseball writers are notoriously opposed to giving players unanimous selection. In fact, only one player in history has managed it: Mariona Rivera in 2019.

Jeter was one vote away from matching his fellow Yankees legend.
