Is it 2006? No, not exactly.
However, Tito Ortiz and Anderson Silva will box one another on Saturday night from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, FL. The fight should start around 11 p.m. ET but could begin sooner depending on the pacing of the event and how quickly the additional undercard fights wrap up.
Silva and Ortiz will serve as the co-main event of the upcoming Triller pay-per-view event.
What time is the Evander Holyfield vs. Vitor Belfort fight card?
The former UFC champions have enjoyed long and illustrious careers over the past decade-plus, including stints where they both dominated their respective weight divisions. Silva, primarily a middleweight, held the title from 2006-2013, as he defeated the likes of Rich Franklin (x2). Nate Marquardt, Patrick Cote, Chael Sonnen (x2), and Yushin Okami during his illustrious run at the top of the sport.
Ortiz, however, had a slightly different reign as light heavyweight champion. He dominated the early portion of the 2000s, as he defeated Elvis Sinosic, Ken Shamrock, and Wanderlei Silva as champion. A loss to Randy Couture at UFC 44 was followed by subsequent losses to Chuck Liddell at UFC 47 and UFC 66. He would never reach No. 1 contender status again after the second Liddell loss, as he went winless over the next five years before finally submitting Ryan Bader at UFC 132.
For Silva, who was released from the UFC after a loss, he wants to continue competing and recently defeated Julio Ceasar Chavez Jr. in June during his first boxing venture. Ortiz, though, has never stepped foot in the squared circle and will look to begin his next venture in combat sports on the right foot.
Can Silva add another legend to the win column or will Ortiz find success in his first outing as a boxer?
