Details of Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman La’el Collins’ suspension have been revealed, and it’s not a great look for the 28-year-old.

As it turns out, Collins didn’t actually test positive for anything. Were that the case, a five-game suspension would’ve been warranted and easily understood.

No, instead, Collins didn’t take the test at all, and has been punished for bypassing it.

Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News reported that Collins declined to test altogether.

"“Cowboys RT La’el Collins did not test positive for substance, source said. He declined to test. In any event, suspension stands. He’ll be docked five game checks — an amount that would be higher if not for March contract restructure, which converted some salary to signing bonus.”"

While it’s good for Collins that he won’t lose five weeks of his previous salary, it’s not ideal for the Cowboys, who were hoping to get a healthy right tackle next week.

Dallas Cowboys: La’el Collins suspension comes at awful time

Collins’ suspension comes directly after Dallas’ first loss of the season, and while they’re dealing with a case of COVID-19 to Zack Martin.

The offensive line was meant to be a strength for the Cowboys this season, but instead it’s a relative weakness given the caliber of players injured.
