Nobody loves the outcome of Ohio State’s loss to Oregon more than Clemson football fans.

After losing a heartbreaker last week to Georgia, Clemson football fans get a huge boost in Week 2 with Ryan Day’s Ohio State football program losing at home to Mario Cristobal’s Oregon football team.

What this does for the Tigers is it gives them a slight edge over the Buckeyes should they be duking it out for the final College Football Playoff spot. The logic behind this is a neutral-site loss to Georgia is way better than home loss to Oregon. With Georgia and Oregon looking like playoff teams early in the season, spots will be hard to come by for teams like Clemson or Ohio State.

There is a chance that the SEC could send two teams into the College Football Playoff this season.

Clemson football fans should rejoice after Ohio State’s home loss to Oregon

What this comes down to is the eye test should Clemson and Ohio State run the table. The Tigers should win the ACC fairly easily, but are not going to have a game on their slate the rest of the way as compelling as the loss was to Georgia in Week 1. Though Ohio State may get a better matchup in Indianapolis if the Buckeyes win the East again, that home loss to Oregon could hold them back.

At this point, all Clemson needs to do is win out, and do so in a commanding manner. As long as Georgia gets to Atlanta with one or fewer losses, that defeat to the Dawgs is not going to be the end of the world for the Tigers. As for Ohio State, the Buckeyes need Oregon to run the table for them to have a better shot of getting in when compared to Clemson. They really dropped the ball.

In these big non-conference games, a third party always benefits, and it was Clemson in Week 2.
