Making college football picks against the spread and for the point totals for every top 25 game on the schedule in Week 2.

The first week of top 25 college football action is in the book and we learned a lot. For starters, we learned it would be nice to know if Washington’s offense is basically not going to have any pass-catchers. We also learned that Ohio State isn’t infallible, as is the case with North Carolina, LSU and several others. So where do we go from here?

After the first week of betting every top 25 college football game, we finished 8-9-1 against the spread but made up with that by going 11-5-2 when betting the point totals. If we can improve against the spread, we could have a very good overall mark ater starting the season 19-14-3. We’ll try and continue that trend.

We’re looking at the college football Week 2 slate and offering betting advice for every game where lines are available. (Note: All odds are via WynnBet.)

College Football Picks Week 2: No. 25-21

Alabama State vs. 25 Auburn – Game not on board

Auburn opened their season with Akron and beat up on the Zips as an SEC team should against one of the worst groups in FBS this season. They aren’t going to get tested again as they welcome Alabama State to Jordan-Hare Stadium, even if there is a look-ahead factor with a matchup against Penn State looming next week.

Georgia State vs. 24 North Carolina (-26.0) – Under 66.5

On the heels of immense disappointment against Virginia Tech, I expect Mack Brown to light a fire under North Carolina against an inferior Georgia State team. Not only will Sam Howell put up big numbers firing all over the place but the defense will try to impose their will and control the game, which is why I’m playing the under for this tilt.

UNLV vs. 23 Arizona State (-34.5) – Under 54.5

While the Sun Devils failed to cover last week against Southern Utah, they still won decisively by 27 points. On the other hand, UNLV went out and lost in overtime to Eastern Washington, an FCS program (even if a good one). Arizona State will continue to assert themselves and the Rebels will have precisely zero fun in this matchup.

Appalachian State (+9.0) vs. 22 Miami – Over 54.5

I’m willing to be wrong here but this feels like a bad spot for Miami. Not only is App State one of the best Group of 5 programs in the country who looked good in the opener but the Hurricanes are reeling from a drubbing at the hands of Alabama. Even if Manny Diaz’s team ekes out a win, the Mountaineers are going to keep it within one score during a relative shootout.

21 Utah (-7.0) vs. BYU – Under 49.0

The Holy War has me stumped. I’m not wholly confident that the Utes can get a victory by more than a touchdown over the Cougars, even if I’m definite that Utah is the better team. This one is going to be gritty and ugly, though, so bank on the under hitting if nothing else.
