10 D/ST sleepers to target for fantasy football in Week 1
4. New York Giants
Guided by the scheming of coordinator Patrick Graham, the Giants are perhaps the most underrated defense in the NFL. Week 1 looks like a prime opportunity to stifle an opposing offense.
The Denver Broncos have a formidable-looking set of skill position talent (Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, Noah Fant). But while going with Teddy Bridgewater as the starter under center is rooted in his steadiness compared to Drew Lock, it also reduces the upside of their offense.
A limited quarterback and a defense that’s quite good is a formula for success. Don’t forget about the Giants’ defense in your fantasy football lineups (regular and DFS) this week.
3. Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers will have Joey Bosa and Derwin James back healthy for the start of the season, and rookie cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. adds another piece to a talented unit. Week 1 looks like an opportunity to exploit.
The Washington Football Team has a good-looking set of skill talent, and the offensive line is solid. The wild card is the new quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick. As much fun as “Fitz Magic” is, as as fun as it is to have him on a fantasy roster those best weeks, he can also throw up a multiple-INT game once in awhile.
The Chargers’ defense will surely have some mistakes fall into their laps on Sunday. If they can take advantage of them, there’s a path to finishing as the highest-scoring fantasy D/ST in Week 1.
