ESPN experimented with a “Manning-cast” of sorts on Monday Night Football, and NFL fans loved it. Here were the best moments.

Peyton Manning and Eli Manning are two of the most personable football minds in (now) NFL media. The current and future Hall-of-Fame quarterbacks are legends in their craft, and can talk football for hours.

So, that’s exactly what ESPN paid them to do.

The Mannings ran their own broadcast, from a comfortable couch in-studio, side-by-side ESPN’s original Monday Night Football team for a Week 1 matchup between the Baltimore Ravens and Las Vegas Raiders. It’s safe to assume the ratings were through the roof, even though it was aired on ESPN2.

Peyton and Eli have combined for four Super Bowls, so you can bet they know what they’re talking about. Yet, they’re also goofballs, so there were a few unforgettably funny moments on Monday night.

3. Peyton Manning’s attempt at an apology letter to a referee

Peyton Manning pleaded his case that he was a good guy during the broadcast. After he cursed out an on-field official during a game, he asked the NFL for his address so he could send him an apology letter. The league refused, to which Peyton summized “they thought I was going to egg his house.”

2. Peyton Manning’s analysis while wearing a Ravens helmet

Sure, Peyton’s impression of Raiders head coach Jon Gruden was hilarious, but nothing topped when he tried to mimic the play by the Ravens while wearing a helmet. After saying the helmet could not fit, Eli jumped in to chirp “they didn’t have a XXL helmet?”

1. Eli Manning’s fire alarm goes off

This was the moment where everyone in their residence checked their smoke detectors to see if it was going off. That is when they discovered that the alarm they heard was not there’s, but Eli’s. What a way to end the first half of Raiders-Ravens.
