The LSU football team will not have running back John Emery Jr. available for the rest of the season because of academics.

LSU football head coach Ed Orgeron said on a Monday Zoom call that running back John Emery Jr. will not be available for the Tigers for the rest of the season due to academics.

“John Emery is out for the year and my saying is he’s unavailable. Right now, he’s unavailable. Things could change,” said Orgeron. “If they do change, we’ll play him. Could they change? Yeah, but that’s out of my control.”

TigerBait’s Mike Scarborough later reported Emery’s family is pursuing all actions to ensure that he can be academically eligible for LSU during the 2021 college football season.

LSU hosts Central Michigan on a Baton Rouge Saturday night with a 1-1 record on the year.

Since winning it all in 2019, everything has hit the fan for the Bayou Bengals. LSU went 5-5 in its national title defense a season ago. The Tigers lost their season opener at UCLA in embarrassing fashion. Now they lose a former five-star recruit out of their backfield. Expect Tyrion Davis-Price, Corey Kiner, Kevontre Bradford and Armoni Goodwin to pick up the slack in the LSU backfield.

This is a critical year for Orgeron at LSU. While he has that national championship on his resume, he must avoid becoming the next Gene Chizik in the SEC. Three years after Auburn won its first national title in a generation, the Tigers moved on from their national championship-winning head coach. Orgeron must take back control of his program, and get LSU back to playing great football.

Emery and his family may try to fight the academic suspension, but this feels like an uphill battle.
