The Dallas Cowboys got the opposite of the news they were hoping for on defensive end DeMarcus Cousins, who reportedly has a broken foot.

When defensive end DeMarcus Cousins landed on the injury report on Wednesday, concern immediately spiked that he might have to miss extended time.

It appears that concern was warranted. If reports are to be believed, the defensive star is going to miss Sunday’s game against the Chargers and more.

DeMarcus Cousins injury update: Cowboys DE has broken foot

“Source tells me DE Demarcus Lawrence has suffered a broken foot,” Joe Trahan of WFAA tweeted.

Ian Rapoport confirmed the report of a broken foot while Lawrence himself tweeted about the injury.

There’s no official timetable for a return, but an injury like that is likely to keep Lawrence out for a chunk of the season even if the Cowboys are lucky on a quick recovery. Per Jane Slater of NFL Network, 6-8 weeks of missed time is the minimum.

The DE went down during practice during a week Dallas’ defensive line was already suffering. Fellow defensive end Randy Gregory tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday, putting his status for the weekend in doubt. He is reportedly vaccinated, but still needs two negative tests in a row in order to be cleared.

Without Lawrence, Dallas will turn to Tarell Basham. The former Mac Defensive Player of the Year was drafted by the Colts in 2017 and spent three seasons with the Jets, starting 12 games. He signed with the Cowboys in March as a free agent.
