It’s been quite a few years since the Florida Gators last beat the No. 1 ranked team in college football. What’s their history vs. the top dogs?

The Florida Gators have spent their share of weeks ranked No. 1 in the nation. But what about when they go against No. 1?

The Gators haven’t enjoyed the rush of besting the best in the land for over a decade.

Florida football: Gators haven’t beaten the No. 1 team since 2008

The opponent might change depending on how you look at it, but the 2008 season was the last time Florida beat a No. 1 team.

Alabama was the AP poll No. 1 when the Gators beat them 31-20 in the SEC Championship Game in 2008. That was also the last time they beat the Crimson Tide full stop.

The SEC title game victory put Florida into the BCS Championship Game to end that season. While the AP ranked the Gators No. 1 going into that game, the Coaches and BCS rankings had Oklahoma ranked No. 1. Florida won the national championship by beating the Sooners 24-14.

Looking only at AP rankings, the Gators have three victories all-time against No. 1 teams. They beat Alabama in the SEC title game in 2008, Ohio State in the 2006 BCS National Championship Game and Florida State in the 1996 Sugar Bowl.

However, they have never beaten the No. 1 team in the regular season.

In more recent campaigns, Florida has fallen to Alabama in 2016, Florida State in 2014, LSU in 2011 and Alabama in 2010, all ranked No. 1.
