Nick Saban won’t ever let go of his ‘deez nuts’ joke, and former quarterback Mac Jones firmly cemented that notion.

New England Patriots and former Alabama quarterback Mac Jones has played under tough coaches in Nick Saban and Bill Belichick. However, Jones knows that his former college coach has a funnier side to him.

In an interview with Merlon and Fauria on WEEI, Jones confirmed that Saban could not get enough of his ‘deez nuts’ joke.

"“I think it’s kind of his thing. He’s been doing it for a while. I think he maybe needs to get some new ones.”"

Wow, that elicits laughter, but it also confirms two things. One, the fact that Jones asked his coach to get new material is hilarious, but second, it shows that Saban does have another side to him, a side that we don’t usually see.

More often than not, we see Coach Saban as strict, demanding perfection, and throwing headsets in frustration. On the flip side, like after winning a national championship, he seems more mellow, at peace, and smiling at what he just accomplished.

Mac Jones took a hilarious jab at Nick Saban, forcing him to find new material.

Mac Jones is undoubtedly one to know about how Saban operates. Jones arrived in Tuscaloosa in 2017 and waited till 2020 to get a shot at becoming a starting quarterback.

In his final season with the Crimson Tide, Jones led the team to a national championship over Ohio State and fellow first-round quarterback Justin Fields. Jones was also among the Heisman finalists, with the award going to Jones’ teammate DeVonta Smith.

In April, Jones was selected 15th overall by the New England Patriots and is now under the tutelage of Belichick, who has a personal connection with Saban, notably their time together in Cleveland.

Maybe Jones is right; Saban should get new material. But if he continues to keep winning national championships, it may not matter.
