This deal returns the 76ers the least possible star value of any deal but it does add some nice pieces for a championship push this season. Bogdanovic can play the 3 and the 4, he’s a capable secondary creator from the frontcourt and he’s 17.2 points per game while shooting 40.7 percent on 3-pointers over the past four seasons combined. He replicates some of Simmons’ playmaking but does it with a much more diverse and threatening scoring package.

O’Neal gives them another strong defender who can handles 3s and 4s, some of the most diverse matchups Simmons would normally have defended. He doesn’t offer a ton on offense but he’s a capable spot-up shooter who has made 37.9 percent of his 3s during his four-year career. In addition, the 76ers get a pair of first-round picks. They might not be high lottery picks but this may be as much draft capital as they can squeeze in any possible deal.

For the Jazz, who have struggled to land star-level players outside the draft, they get two young players with All-Star potential. Replacing Bogdanovic with Ben Simmons definitely rocks the boat a bit but their system thrives on having multiple playmakers and players who can create so there is a clear offensive role for Simmons to step into. He’d also be a huge defensive upgrade for hypothetical playoff matchups against everyone from LeBron James and Paul George to Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo. They also land Maxey who seems primed for a breakout season and could form a dynamic bench-scoring combination with Jordan Crawford. This also helps the Jazz get significantly younger as they look to keep building for the future around Donovan Mitchell.
