4. Elijah Mitchell will get 25+ carries

The quarterback “battle” between Garoppolo and rookie Trey Lance rumbles on for the 49ers, but the emergence of Elijah Mitchell as a potential star at tailback is a bigger story. The Packers’ front seven should expect to see a ton of Mitchell on Sunday night.

Green Bay lacks the quality on the defensive side of the ball to stop San Francisco’s run game from betting on track. That means Mitchell is in line for a lot of work. 25 carries seems like a safe bet for a guy who’s already toted the ball 36 times for 146 yards on the young season.

The key for the Packers will be making sure Mitchell doesn’t hit the 100-yard mark. If they can hold him to under four yards a carry it will drastically improve their chances of scoring a big victory.

There’s always a chance Trey Sermon could sneak in and steal away a significant amount of Mitchell’s carries, but the smart money is on Shanahan to continue to ride the hot hand. His faith could be repaid with a big rushing total from Mitchell in Week 3.
