With a lack in production, RB Ezekiel Elliott’s huge contract puts the Dallas Cowboys in a tough spot.

Two years ago, RB Ezekiel Elliott held out until he got the contract that he wanted with the Dallas Cowboys. A contract that would make it difficult for the Cowboys to dump him and with a drop in production, it has done just that.

Elliott used his leverage to get a contract that would benefit him greatly. Good for him, because it’s certainly paying off.

Ezekiel Elliott isn’t worried about concerns surrounding his contract with the Dallas Cowboys

In 2019, Elliott signed a six-year, $90 million contract extension with Dallas. By holding out, he was guaranteed pay for the first four years of the contract.

During his rookie season in 2016-17, Elliott led the NFL with 1,631 rushing yards and played a large role in the Cowboys 13-3 record that year. For the second time in three seasons, he sat atop the league in rushing yards with 1,434 in 2018-19. That was two years ago, and Elliott’s production hasn’t been the same. At all.

Last season, Elliott posted a career-low 979 yards and is sharing duties with RB Tony Pollard this season.

Ezekiel isn’t worried about people claiming that he isn’t earning his pay:

"“You hear it but what really matters is what’s going on in this building,” Elliott said, via Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News. “They’re not the one signing the checks. They’re not the ones sending the wires. So I mean I don’t think it matters.”"

Elliott is still going to get his money regardless of how he performs on the field. Maybe other players around the league could take notes from him, but that would be an absolute nightmare for front offices.

Next. Cowboys defense will be incredibly shorthanded against Eagles. dark
