Oleksandr Usyk changed the landscape of the heavyweight division after defeating Anthony Joshua via unanimous decision. Here’s Twitter’s reaction.

Oleksandr Usyk just dropped a bomb on boxing’s heavyweight division after he dethroned heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, for the lion’s share of the heavyweight title.

Joshua (24-2, 22 KOs) was a solid favorite headed into his Sept. 25 bout with Usyk, but Usyk’s background as an Olympic gold medalist and former undisputed cruiserweight champion made him more than a live dog. He proved his doubters wrong with a clean sweep on the judges’ scorecards to earn a unanimous decision.

Usyk (19-0, 13 KOs) has the WBA, WBO, and IBF heavyweight titles. There’s a rematch clause with Joshua, so expect the rematch sometime in the next six months.

Joshua came away from the fight damaged. His right eye was badly swollen, which could mean an orbital bone break. That’s a career-altering injury, so hopefully, it isn’t that serious. Regardless, Usyk had his way for most of the fight and almost had Joshua out of there in the 12th and final round.

Oleksandr Usyk received rave reviews on social media after his unanimous decision win over Oleksandr Usyk

Usyk looked fresh at 34-year-old and had boxing Twitter buzzing. Fans, pundits, and fellow boxers sang Usyk’s praises. Fellow heavyweight champion Tyson Fury was quiet, as was former WBC champion Deontay Wilder. They fight on Oct. 9 in a trilogy bout. The winner might find themselves fighting Usyk for all the marbles within a year.

Usyk’s win shook the boxing world in all the right places. Here’s what people were saying on social media.
