Auburn football player Bo Nix was benched in favor of TJ Finley during the Georgia State game.

It is a new era of Auburn football, and head coach Bryan Harsin needs to play the best player at quarterback, whether that is Bo Nix, TJ Finley or someone else entirely.

Nix has been the starter for the Tigers for the last three years. While he can run a good bit, plays very well at home and is a quarterbacking legacy down on The Plains, Nix did not play particularly well on Saturday and was benched in favor of the LSU transfer. Finley took over to save Auburn’s season from complete embarrassment. He was key in holding off the Georgia State Panthers.

After a month into the season, should Harsin give Nix another shot or let Finley start for Auburn?

Auburn football QB controversy: Who should start between Bo Nix and TJ Finley?

Simply put, Auburn is not going to win the SEC West this year, or even contend for it. Auburn may be ranked No. 23, but this is at-best the sixth best team in the conference. Of course, this is what we expected with a new head coach in his first year with Harsin. He has to set the tone for what is expected out of Auburn football going forward. Harsin did not recruit most of these players either.

So should Finley start over Nix going forward? Yes, because he provided a spark offensively Nix has not been able to for the better part of three years. Nix may be a legacy at Auburn, but it should not matter who his father is. Harsin is in the business of winning games, and without Finley, Auburn does not beat Georgia State. He transferred to Auburn so he could play. Give him his shot.

Besides culture building, the only thing that matters for Auburn this year is finding a quarterback.
