Ohio State football: Everything you need to know about Kyle McCord

Kyle McCord will make his first career start for the Ohio State football team in Week 4.

After C.J. Stroud getting the first three starts of the season, it will be Kyle McCord who leads the Ohio State football team out of the tunnel vs. Akron on Saturday night.

Stroud is not playing on Saturday, and given how highly touted McCord was coming out of high school, he could end up being the Buckeyes’ starting quarterback the rest of the way if he plays well. Though Ohio State can still win the Big Ten, make the College Football Playoff and win a national championship, it is a bold move for head coach Ryan Day to roll with a true freshman.

So ahead of McCord’s first career start with Ohio State, here is what you need to know about him.

McCord is a five-star pro-style passer from Philadelphia. According to the 247Sports Composite, McCord was the No. 2 player from Pennsylvania, the No. 6 quarterback in the country and the No. 28 overall prospect in the Class of 2021. He had 17 offers coming out of high school and enrolled at Ohio State in January. McCord has already been compared to Matthew Stafford.

Overall, McCord has an unbelievable opportunity to take advantage of Saturday. Stroud is not playing, and it seems as though he has usurped Jack Miller III on the depth chart. While Quinn Ewers is also a freshman, he only got on campus in August after reclassifying for 2021. Even if Akron is not Big Ten competition, McCord can run away with the starting job if he plays well.

Ohio State may not win it all this year, but if McCord balls out, they have an answer at quarterback.
