Florida State football has looked hapless and helpless to start the 2021 season, but when will they finally notch their first win of the year?

When the Florida State Seminoles opened up their 2021 season by taking a then-top-10 ranked Notre Dame team to overtime in an absolute thriller, fans in Tallahassee had to have some semblance of optimism creeping in. Three weeks later, though, any hopes of a good season in the second year under Mike Norvell have dissipated.

Since the narrow loss to the Irish, FSU got upset in shocking, dramatic fashion by FCS program Jacksonville State. They followed that up by getting blown out by Wake Forest and then let Louisville’s offense have their way. It’s been downright abysmal and, bluntly, depressing to watch for Seminoles fans.

And it begs the question of when Florida State football will finally notch a win this season — if they are going to win a game in 2021.

Florida State will win their first game of the 2021 season against…

After playing Louisville in Week 4, the Noles will be back at home to play Syrcause, a team that’s beatable for most but not one you feel wholly confident in Florida State beating. Then they travel to North Carolina the following week, which could get ugly — even if they did knock off the Tar Heels last year.

But FSU gets their bye week after that game before welcoming UMass to Tallahassee. The Minutemen might be the worst team in college football this season — but they are undoubtedly in the conversation no matter what. That’s a game that Florida State could, should and will win to finally remove the zero from the win column.

And if they don’t win that game, then the locks on the facilities might get changed on that Saturday night to make sure Mike Norvell can’t get back in the building.
