Derek Stingley Jr. suffered an ankle injury during LSU practice and will miss the game against Mississippi State and possibly more.

The LSU Tigers defense has quite a bit to sort out against Mississippi State. Unfortunately, they’ll have to do it without All-American cornerback Derek Stingley Jr.

Stingley hurt his foot on Wednesday during practice and will miss the game against the Bulldogs.

Tigers fans need to start praying that’s all he’ll miss.

Derek Stingley injury update: How long with the LSU CB be out?

Bruce Feldman of The Athletic reported the news that Stingley won’t be available on Saturday. The timing could hardly be worse as the star cornerback will miss yet another tough matchup against an Air Raid attack.

Worse still, Feldman added that Stingley could be out “for an extended period.”

Jacques Doucet of WAFB captured a video of the cornerback wearing a boot.

The boot doesn’t mean he’ll miss a long stretch, but it goes to show that the injury isn’t a minor concern. There is also the chance Stingley shuts it down and prepares for the NFL Draft where he’s projected to be a top-10 pick.

The Stingley injury comes on the back of a season-ending injury for Andre Anthony, LSU’s best defensive end. He hurt his knee against central Michigan.

LSU will have to find a way to slow down Mike Leach’s attack at Mississippi State without two key players on their defense. The Tigers gave up 44 points to the Bulldogs in a loss last year.

Stingley’s direct backup is senior Darren Evans. However, Dwight McGlothern, a bright sophomore, could be the one to take a spot in the starting lineup opposite Eli Ricks.
