Kyle Kuzma calls out all NBA analysts in one savage tweet
New Washington Wizards forward Kyle Kuzma shared his thoughts on NBA analysts.
Like many people on Sunday morning, Kyle Kuzma of the Washington Wizards was watching some football game day programming getting prepared for NFL Sunday. This led him to an interesting observation that he wanted to share with his millions of followers.
Kuzma praised the maturity of former football players who are now analysts for actually breaking down the sport and helping viewers understand. He compared them with former basketball players turned analysts, who he doesn’t think so highly of, calling them “clowns” and alluding to their clout-chasing tactics.
Kyle Kuzma has a point about NBA analysts
While this tweet may have been targeted, as Kuzma is frequently a victim of NBA media, he has a point. Hot take culture plagues all sports, but it especially has the NBA in a chokehold. Everything in mainstream media surrounding the NBA game is about legacy and narratives. You rarely see the type of breakdowns that is common in mainstream NFL media.
For example, look at this breakdown from a segment last week on ESPN’s NFL Live:
Former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky and former NFL safety Ryan Clark go back and forth taking viewers into the players’ minds as they break down how a play resulted in a touchdown. It was a moment appreciated by fans and even other media as former NFL corner and current ESPN analyst Domonique Foxworth said the moment left him feeling both jealous and inspired.
Moments like these can take place more often in mainstream NBA coverage. Tim Legler, a former NBA player turned ESPN analyst who has quality basketball breakdowns, is buried deep into the night often doing his breakdowns on ESPN after the latest NBA game. Many are usually sleep at that point and have to settle for another GOAT debate during prime daytime hours.
As Kyle Kuzma highlighted, NBA media needs to follow the lead of NFL analysts and help fans understand the sport.
