Lane Kiffin can make history if his Ole Miss Rebels hand the Alabama Crimson Tide a defeat.

Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin can make history if the Rebels beat the Alabama Crimson Tide in Week 5.

To date, no former Nick Saban assistant has ever beaten him head-to-head on the college gridiron. Saban is an astounding 23-0 vs. his robust coaching tree of proteges. Given that two of Alabama’s annual rivals are coached by former Saban disciples, it is bound to happen at some point, right? No. 12 Ole Miss has the offense and the quarterback to ruin Saban’s perfect record.

Alabama also faces Jimbo Fisher’s Texas A&M Aggies at Kyle Field next week, as well as possibly Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship, or maybe even a rematch in the College Football Playoff or national title bout?

Can Lane Kiffin be the first former Nick Saban assistant to beat him?

As far as if Ole Miss is capable of rolling the Tide, that is all contingent on two things: How well will the Landshark defense hold up and if starting quarterback Matt Corral is a serious Heisman Trophy contender? Corral looks to be legit this season, and the Ole Miss defense is much improved over what it was a year ago. However, Alabama is still Alabama, and Kiffin should be well aware of that.

This may be Rat Poison for Saban, but one of his former assistants will knock him off eventually.
