Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said his team didn’t get the job done after getting swept by the Yankees but still thinks they’re in a good spot.

What is there to say after getting swept by a bitter rival? Alex Cora had to figure that out on Sunday when his Red Sox fell for a third straight game to the Yankees.

In his postgame comments, Cora put on a brave face and tried to make the most of the situation.

Alex Cora says the Yankees sweeping the Red Sox wasn’t the worst-case

“We didn’t get the job done. It’s very simple,” Cora said per Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com.

Boston scored three runs in each of the three games against New York. The problem is the Yankees scored more in each outing. It was a humbling experience after a seven-game winning streak coming into the weekend.

However, Cora insisted on looking on the bright side. Despite the losses, he emphasized how the weekend’s results weren’t the end of the world.

“We’re still in position to make the playoffs, so that’s not the worst-case scenario,” Cora said per Ian Browne of MLB.com.

Boston still holds one of the American League Wild Card spots. They’re one game ahead of the Blue Jays, with the schedule doing them a favor. Toronto has to face the Yankees this week, meaning any ground one makes up will cause the other to take a step back.

The Red Sox will finish out the regular season on the road. Their opponents are ideal, though, with series against the Orioles and Nationals presenting the opportunity for a strong finish.
