The USC football coaching search could be heading to the NFL with a report suggesting the Trojans are looking at Anthony Lynn.

Dozens of names have been thrown out there as potential candidates for USC’s search for a new head coach. Add Anthony Lynn to the pile.

“USC boosters have reached out to Lions offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn to gauge his interest in the university’s vacancy,” NFL reporter Jim Trotter tweeted on Monday.

Trotter added that Lynn would be interested in the job but “to date there has been no contact between the schools and Lynn.”

USC football is reportedly looking at Anthony Lynn

Lynn was the head coach for the Chargers until he was fired following the 2020 season. He is now the Lions’ offensive coordinator.

His resumé might be as close to Pete Carroll before he was hired by the Trojans as anyone out there. He showed promise finishing second in the AFC West each of his first two seasons while making the playoffs in 2018.

However, the 2019 season was a disaster while a relative bounce back to 7-9 in 2020 wasn’t enough to save his job. On the plus side, he helped coach Justin Herbert into one of the better young quarterbacks in the league as a rookie.

Lynn would have to answer some big questions to truly stand out as a candidate. He’s never coached at the college level, so he’d be starting from scratch on one level.

While he has had some success, he’s also known for questionable game management with his Chargers teams often losing close games.
