The St. Louis Cardinals posted the perfect tweet after their 17th-win in a row helped them clinch a postseason berth.

The St. Louis Cardinals were below .500 at the All-Star break, and appeared to be long-shots to make the postseason . But, if history had shown us anything, it is always great for a team to catch fire at the end of the season. St. Louis did just that with a historic winning streak.

On Tuesday night, the Cardinals defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 6-2 to earn their 17th-straight  win and as a result, clinched the second NL Wild Card berth. Following that, the Cardinals’ official Twitter account sent out a message that hinted at their previous 2.8-percent chance of making the postseason.

17-game winning streak helps Cardinals clinch postseason berth

While the Cardinals did have slim chances of making the playoffs, a franchise-setting winning streak will drastically help improve those odds. That is certainly what happened in the month of September, as they closed the door on teams such as the New York Mets, San Diego Padres, and Cincinnati Reds, to officially set the National League field.

The Brewers did take an early 2-0 lead on a two-run homer by Luis Urias in the top of the fourth inning, but the Cardinals tied things up on a home run by Dylan Carlson and a sacrifice fly by Adam Wainwright. St. Louis took a 4-2 lead in the fifth on an RBI single by Tyler O’Neill and a sacrifice fly by Nolan Arenado, and never looked back.

In 2019, the Cardinals were swept in the NLCS by the eventual World Series champion Washington Nationals. Last year, St. Louis lost 2-1 to the San Diego Padres in NLDS. Now, the Cardinals look to carry their late-season momentum with the hopes of hoisting the Commissioner’s Trophy for the 12th time in franchise history.

The Cardinals wait and see whether they will face the Los Angeles Dodgers or San Francisco Giants in the single-game Wild Card round.
