MLB playoffs will begin soon, find out the structure of each MLB playoff series.

The MLB playoffs begin Tuesday, October 5. With ever-changing formats in sports, we have you covered detailing the structure of each round and series.

Last year, during a condensed season, the MLB played an expanded playoffs involving 16 teams. This year, they return to the 10 team playoff system. The teams are the three division champions from each league and the two wild card teams from each league.

How many games in each MLB playoff series

Wildcard Game

The playoffs start with a winner take all Wild Card game. This is between the best two non-division winning teams in a respective league. They play a single game against each other to decide who will advance to the Divisional Series.

Divisional Series 

The Divisional Series is a best-of-five series. A team must win three games in order to advanced to the next round. There will be four total Divisional Series, two in each league, with the winners facing off in the Championship Series.

Championship Series 

The Championship Series is a best-of-seven series, with teams needing to win four games in order to advance. The winners of these series determines the American League and National League Champions. They will then face off in the World Series.

World Series

The World Series follows the same structure as the Championship Series. A best-of-seven with four games being necessary to win. After a team wins four games, they will be crowned as the Major League Baseball champions.
