Trevor Story takes the field by himself in what could be his final Rockies game

Colorado Rockies’ shortstop Trevor Story ran out on Coors Field alone for what could be the final time. 

The Colorado Rockies played their final home game of the 2021 MLB season on Wednesday against the Washington Nationals. Colorado shortstop Trevor Story took the field alone at the beginning of the game in what is expected to be his final game at Coors Field.

Story tied his career best with four hits and also scored three runs in a 10-5 win over the Nationals. Trevor’s playing out the final year of his contract and if this is indeed his last game wearing a Rockies uniform in Denver, he went out on a good note.

Story has been with Colorado since he entered the league in 2016, when he finished fourth in NL Rookie of the Year voting.

Once Rockies fans realized that Trevor was taking the field alone, fans stood up and cheered the two-time All-Star. It’s fitting that Story participated in the 2021 All-Star Home Run Derby that was hosted by Coors Field in July.

Trevor has hit 24 home runs, 74 RBIs and has a .808 OPS during the 2021 season. Colorado has been out of playoff contention and currently holds a 73-85 record, so this isn’t exactly the ending that Story hoped for. However, it’s easy to see the love that he has for the organization.

If Trevor is with another team next season, he’ll be met with the same applause that he was today when he takes the field as a visitor for the first time. Expect the emotions to be on full display as the Rockies welcome one of their own back home.
