Boston Red Sox fans took over Nationals Park in Washington D.C., and that was never more relevant than in a huge ninth inning.

Sox fans always travel well, and they made their presence known at Nationals Park this weekend.

Tied at a run apiece thanks to a Juan Soto sacrifice fly, the Red Sox opened the floodgates in the top of the ninth inning, scoring four runs.

First it was Christian Vazquez hitting an RBI triple to give Boston the lead. Red Sox fans flipped out, and made Nationals Park sound like Fenway.

Travis Shaw followed that up with an RBI single, and then Kiké Hernandez drove home two more with a two-run shot.

Red Sox: AL Wild Card update

With a win, the Red Sox would tie the Yankees for the top AL Wild Card spot. The Blue Jays would be a half-game back, and the Mariners have yet to play on Saturday.

Boston is in prime position to finish ahead of both New York and Toronto, especially given the Yankees struggles to finish the season against the Tampa Bay Rays.
