The college football schedule this week is highlighted by the Red River Rivalry and Penn State at Iowa, but there are plenty more games worth watching.

It is week 6 in college football, and most of the AP Top 25 will be reaching the halfway point of their season. So far in 2021, we have had more than our fair share of ranked opponents squaring up, surprise upsets, and arrhythmia-inducing nail-biters.

This week’s action is frontloaded, with the best matchups set to begin by 4 p.m. at the latest. That cuts both ways. If your team wins, more time to party! If your team loses, well, plenty of time to watch Rudy and think about what would have happened if they had gone for it on fourth and two.

The prestige games start at noon with the Red River Rivalry, where Texas could effectively end Oklahoma’s help-free path to the CFP. Also at noon, Arkansas and Ole Miss try to bounce back from their encounters with the SEC’s two best teams.

In the late afternoon games, Auburn welcomes a defensive buzzsaw in Georgia to town. That game is slated to begin 30 minutes before Penn State travels to Iowa in a game that both teams need to keep their playoff path clear.

The night games don’t have their typical Pac 12 after dark luster, thanks to Arizona State playing on Friday. But fans do get to see Alabama in primetime again in a game that was almost certainly scheduled before Texas A&M tripped over its shoelaces. Nevertheless, the 12th Man will be in full effect as the sun sets over Kyle Field. It could be a sneaky fun game to watch. It’s certainly the time of year for it.
