The Detroit Tigers have shown they are on the rise, but it is possible that these three players won’t be back next season.

The Detroit Tigers have been one of the larger surprises in MLB this season. The team brought in a new manager in A.J. Hinch, and caught fire at various points this year.

This season will be one that the Tigers will no doubt build off of this upcoming winter. With the team being relatively young with top prospects on the way, that means some veterans could be shown the door in the offseason. Here are three possibilities.

When looking at the Tigers’ impending free agents this upcoming offseason, they are all pitchers, whether in the starting rotation or in the bullpen. One of the aforementioned players is veteran relief pitcher Derek Holland, who has not had the greatest of seasons.

Holland joined the Tigers on a one-year, $925,000 contract this past winter. The veteran reliever was just coming off one-season stint with the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he had a 6.86 ERA through 12 appearances in the truncated campaign. This season has been a bit of the same for Holland.

Through all of 2021, Holland accumulated a 5.02 ERA. That’s not going to work in any bullpen.

Expect the Tigers to look elsewhere for bullpen help this offseason.
