The Green Bay Packers have a couple of solid corners in Jaire Alexander and rookie Eric Stokes, but Stephon Gilmore would elevate the secondary to new heights.

This is it in Green Bay.

With rumor constantly swirling about Aaron Rodgers’ future, the Packers are facing a crisis point. If they don’t win a title this year, then when? Enter Stephon Gilmore.

Gilmore, 31, has starred for a decade in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots. However, the 2019 Defensive Player of the Year is set to be released at 4 p.m. ET should the Patriots not find a willing trade partner before then.

If he hits the market, the Packers would be wise to start calling, warding off other interested parties including the Kansas City Chiefs, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Buffalo Bills, Baltimore Ravens and others.

The Packers should take a long look at signing Stephon Gilmore

Gilmore isn’t available to play before Week 7 as he’s on the Physically Unable to Perform List, returning from a ruptured quad sustained last year. New England released the veteran because he was carrying a large cap charge and the Patriots needed to save some space on their books.

For the Packers, money shouldn’t be a huge factor. Green Bay general manager Brian Gutekunst has $7.2 million to work with. While Gilmore is reportedly looking for something around $15 million, per Josina Anderson, he’s unlikely to hit that figure without a slew of incentives.

For the 3-1 Packers, adding a talent such as Gilmore would help them elevate in a crowded NFC alongside contenders including the Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Rams, Arizona Cardinals and others.
