Yadier Molina and Paul DeJong were the key players for the St. Louis Cardinals as they got out of the eighth inning against the Dodgers.

In sports, you never know when your moment might come. Yadier Molina and Paul DeJong were up to the task for the Cardinals when their number got called in the eighth inning of the NL Wild Card Game.

Molina has been the old hat guiding St. Louis through thick and thin. He proved his defensive chops preventing Trea Turner from stealing by blocking two breaking pitches.

Those were critical plays that saved the Cardinals in a tough spot. Turner is one of the fastest runners in all of baseball, and the fact he was able to keep him at bay without even a steal attempt with Gallegos on the bump is impressive.

Yadier Molina and Paul DeJong were huge in the eighth inning

Molina wasn’t the only one who came up big in that inning. DeJong made a monster play to end the inning with a leaping grab.

The context of that catch only makes it more immense. DeJong replaced Edmundo Sosa for the eighth inning. Since Sosa had been having a rough night defensively, there’s no saying he would have made the same play.
