The Alabama Crimson Tide suffered a major upset at the hands of the Texas A&M Aggies, and the college football media spoke out on it.

It doesn’t happen often, but the Alabama Crimson Tide usually doesn’t lose in October. Their first loss since 2019 comes at the hand of the Texas A&M Aggies.

The 41-38 victory hands Alabama a stunning early-season loss and will likely drop them down in the rankings from the No. 1 spot.

Additionally, it is the first time that a former assistant of Nick Saban has dethroned the master, as Jimbo Fisher grabs arguably, his greatest victory as a college coach outside of winning the national championship with Florida State in 2013.

Also, Coach Saban’s record of wins vs. unranked opponents, which stood at 100, is now over in addition to the nineteen-game winning streak that dates back to the start of last season.

The Alabama Crimson Tide will still be in the playoff discussion despite this loss because of their reputation.

It was bound to happen that a former assistant was going to beat Nick Saban, but all good things come to an end, and Texas A&M delivered on that, but the question now turns to the College Football Playoff.

Since Alabama lost to an unranked team, how far will they fall in the rankings? The answer is probably not that much because they could still get in the playoff hunt provided they don’t lose another game and win the SEC Championship. Also, if Georgia were to lose somehow, that opens the door for the Tide to get back into the swing.

Despite this defeat, it’ll take more than that to convince the playoff committee that Alabama is not one of the top four teams in the country. Only time will tell how this all shapes out, but this isn’t good for the Tuscaloosa troops. A loss is one thing, but this is another type of defeat, one that could have major ramifications down the line.
