UMass now has a longer winning streak than Alabama

Alabama might be a college football dynasty but, at least by one metric, the lowly UMass Minutemen now have the edge on the Crimson Tide.

Prior to Saturday night, the Alabama Crimson Tide seemed unbeatable in a matchup against a team like Texas A&M. They’d won 19 straight games as a program, had 100 straight wins over unranked teams and Nick Saban had never lost to a former assistant in 24 previous tries.

All of those streaks are over now, though. The Tide went to Kyle Field, got punched in the mouth, tried to rally back, and came up short thanks to a last-second field goal from the Aggies.

For a team that was ranked No. 1 in college football prior to this game, taking an upset loss and seeing those streaks end is bad enough. But now, even the lowly UMass Minutemen, a team that was a combined 1-20 prior to Saturday over the past three seasons, have an edge on them.

Alabama doesn’t have a winning streak anymore, meaning UMass is now ahead of them in that department.

With UMass toppling UConn, 27-13, on Saturday, the Minutemen can now claim that they have a longer winning streak than one of the best dynasties in recent college football memory and the reigning national champions.

Of course, those bragging rights are likely to be short-lived. The Minutemen got a matchup against another one of the worst teams in college football this week. And even if Alabama has more SEC play ahead, their chances of winning are far greater than UMass’.

But for one week, let UMass talk their trash. They are better than Alabama, at least as far as recent form strictly speaking by results is concerned.
