Jets not only lost but completely screwed tons of bettors

The New York Jets not only lost a game they were capable of winning but stuck plenty of bettors with a bad beat.

A huge win against the Tennessee Titans raised expectations for the New York Jets in London this week. The Jets were three-point underdogs against the Atlanta Falcons, who were without their top two wide receivers for this game, and lost 27-20 after digging themselves another early hole they couldn’t climb out of.

A breakout performance from Kyle Pitts helped do in the Jets, who saw their talented rookie quarterback deliver a stinker with Zach Wilson completing just 19-of-32 passes for 192 yards and an interception. Wilson also took two sacks on the day, including one late in the game that ended up creating a bad beat for anyone who bet on this game.

The Jets’ final drive barely allowed the over to be hit

Trailing by 10 with two minutes to go, the Jets got the ball down inside the red zone before Wilson took a 17-yard sack on 2nd and 10 from the 14, forcing New York to burn its final timeout with 22 seconds to go.

Facing insurmountable odds and needing two scores, Jets’ head coach Robert Saleh opted for the field goal instead of trusting Wilson to throw the ball into the end zone on 3rd and 27, which Matt Ammendola converted into a 49-yard field goal.

The onside kick was unsuccessful, rendering the kick meaningless in the grand scheme of things except if you placed a bet on the over. The total for this game was 45.5 points, and the extra three points from Ammendola’s field goal brought the total from 44 to 47, guaranteeing a hit on the over and swinging a lot of money in the process.

The Jets certainly don’t care about that result as they were trying to win a football game but that kick shows you how quickly bets can flip from wins to losses in the NFL.
