The Georgia football team has ascended to the No. 1 spot for the first time in a very long time.

With the Alabama Crimson Tide falling to an unranked Texas A&M team, the Georgia football program has risen to the No. 1 team in the latest AP Top 25 poll.

Georgia not only moved up a spot from No. 2, but the Dawgs got every single first-place vote. Despite being one of the strongest programs in the Power Five, it had been a minute since the Dawgs were on top in the AP Poll. While everybody remembers the magical 1980 season, Georgia has been ranked No. 1 a few times since then. So when was the last time the Dawgs were on top?

You could say that was the beginning of the end for the Mark Richt era of Georgia football.

Georgia football: When was the last time the Dawgs were ranked No. 1?

For a minute there, the Dawgs were seen as the best team in the country entering the 2008 college football season. They finished the year prior ranked No. 2 and began the following campaign ranked No. 1. Though Georgia won its home opener vs. Georgia Southern, the Dawgs fell from No. 1 in Week 2. That team massively underperformed and lost three regular-season games.

It had been over 13 years since the last time the Georgia football team spent a day ranked No. 1.
