Malik Scott talked to Es News hours after Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder 3. He praised Wilder’s effort and revealed Wilder broke his hand.

The Oct. 9 trilogy boxing bout between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder exceeded the hype and jumped to the head of the pack for Fight of the Year honors. As everyone involved decompresses, new information about the storied night comes to light.

Fury and Wilder knocked each other down a combined five times throughout their third and probably final meeting, but Fury was the last man standing. Fury knocked Wilder out in round 11 with a crushing right hand that rendered Wilder unconscious.

Fury partied the night away in Vegas while a doctor evaluated Wilder. Hours after the final bell, Wilder’s trainer, Malik Scott, talked to Es News about the battle. He revealed that Wilder broke his hand.

Trainer Malik Scott told Es News that Deontay Wilder broke his hand in his third contest with Tyson Fury

“He’s got a busted lip and broke his hand–broke his finger or his knuckle or something like that,” Scott told Es News (h/t The Independent).

Scott didn’t specify which hand was broken, but he pointed to his right while talking to Es News. Wilder has a history of breaking his right hand. He has a titanium rod inserted in that hand, which had to be replaced after he bent it from the ferocity of his punching power. His co-trainer and co-promoter Jay Deas explained that to this reporter years ago.

Wilder was dropped in round 3 but came back to knock Fury down twice in round 4. The bell rang and allowed Fury to recover. He broke Wilder down over the next seven rounds before ending the show in the 11th with his right hand.

It’s unclear when the hand injury occurred, but Wilder seemed out of sorts for most of the fight. He kept punching and trying, but he looked unsteady on his feet. He falls to 42-2-1, while WBC champion Fury remains undefeated at 31-0-1.
