2. Tim Beckham

Throughout the 2018 and 2019 seasons with the Orioles and Mariners, respectively, former No. 1 overall pick Tim Beckham established himself as a quality utility infielder, even if not the superstar that the Rays initially drafted him to be more than a decade ago.

However, at the end of that 2019 campaign, he was popped with an 80-game PED suspension that ultimately led to him not being signed for 2020. After the year, though, the White Sox took a swing on him with a minor league contract. And when he was on the field, Beckham looked good in the minors.

In 165 at-bats for the organization, Beckham hit .279 with 11 home runs and a .875 OPS. He looked quite good and, with his strong glove and the ability to play across the infield, it seemed as if he might be on the path to redemption. Unfortunately, he suffered an injury that landed him on the 60-day IL and ended his season.

Given that Chicago was taking a roll of the dice on Beckham to begin with in the wake of his suspension and not playing in 2020, it’s hard to imagine that the franchise would be interested in him again. If Beckham is going to find his way back to the majors, he’s going to need another team to take the same type of flier on him and then hopefully stay healthy.
