If the LSU football program wants to land Arch Manning’s five-star commitment, the Bayou Bengals have to fire head coach Ed Orgeron first.

There is a reason why the LSU football team is not projected to land Arch Manning‘s five-star commitment for 2023: Head coach Ed Orgeron.

Dan Patrick said on his radio show that the only way the best player in his recruiting class stays in-state to play for LSU is if Orgeron gets the ax. While LSU had been among six teams seriously in the mix for Manning’s high-profile commitment, he has soured on them of late. Though Texas is thought to be his early leader, Manning has interest in Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and Ole Miss.

To fire a national championship-winning head coach to land a five-star recruit is a bit much, but LSU is 3-3 under Orgeron this season. If the Tigers lose their third game in a row to cross-divisional rival Florida at home on Saturday afternoon, that might be all she wrote for Coach O.

Arch Manning recruitment: LSU football has to fire Ed Orgeron to secure 5-star

The good news for LSU fans when it comes to the Arch Manning sweepstakes is it is not a matter of if, but a matter of when Orgeron gets fired. Some people thought it would come after getting trounced by the Kentucky Wildcats at Kroger Field last week. This came in the wake of the prank phone call of someone pretending to be Jake Crain of The Jboy Show on The Ed Orgeron Show.

What a Gene Chizik fall from grace it has been for Orgeron in Baton Rouge. Two years ago, he was on top of the world. Now, he is almost certainly getting fired before Thanksgiving. Not only is the team underperforming considerably, but LSU might be facing sanctions soon. And for Orgeron to have cut his teeth as an ace recruiter, not getting Manning would be damning for the LSU program.

If LSU does fire Orgeron at some point this season, it is to get a head coach who can land Manning.
