Oklahoma City Thunder: Is it time to trade Luguentz Dort?

Big wings who can guard high-level offensive stars and hit open threes are worth their weight in gold in the modern NBA. The Thunder are blessed with just such a player in the form of Luguentz Dort.

The problem for Oklahoma City is that they aren’t ready to be a legitimate playoff contender. They’re squarely in rebuilding mode. That makes Dort and his very reasonable contract a prime trade chip for the team as they enter the 2021-22 season.

Sam Presti and his front office aren’t under any immediate pressure to deal Dort, but it’s something they should be shopping quietly. He’s got the chance to be a difference-maker for a number of would-be title contenders. Oklahoma City should absolutely be willing to move him for the right price.

The Thunder should feel empowered to ask for a talented young player and a first-round pick for their established high-level wing. If no one meets that price, they can hold on to Dort for another year. If someone does, they should pounce on the transaction to further accelerate their rebuild.
