The newest country music hit belongs to Connor Smith, whose song “I hate Alabama” touched the hearts of SEC football fans following the Crimson Tide’s loss.

Connor Smith couldn’t have picked a more perfect moment to drop his new single, “I Hate Alabama.”

The Crimson Tide were stunned by Texas A&M on Saturday, a day after Smith officially released his song all about hating Alabama. Now it’s a viral hit that has taken the SEC by storm.

‘I Hate Alabama’ song goes viral in SEC football country

Here are some of the lyrics:

“I hate Alabama / I hate crimson red / I hate how they yell ‘Roll Tide’ when I got a Braves hat on my head / And I love Lynyrd Skynyrd but Lord I hate Sweet Home / ‘Cause when I hear it all I see is a girl with houndstooth on / In the stands of Tuscaloosa / Might have lost by 22 / But I hate Alabama ’cause that’s where I lost you”

SEC fans can certainly relate to the feeling of being crushed by Alabama over and over again. Smith is a Tennessee fan who has felt it particularly hard over the years. He’ll be gearing up for the showdown against Alabama in a couple of weeks, but watching them be upset probably felt good in its own way.

It helps that “I hate Alabama” has such a catchy tune. Even Alabama fans in the comments on YouTube were loving it. After all, there’s something gratifying about being hated for being great.

You can bet fans of SEC teams from Tennessee and Texas A&M will run with the chorus in a million different ways. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see a marching band or two take a shot at adapting it.
