LeBron James is a part-owner of the Boston Red Sox, but it seems his allegiance is trending towards the Los Angeles Dodgers in the MLB postseason.

Well, this is awkward.

LeBron James is in a weird spot in terms of baseball fandom this October. As a Los Angeles Lakers star, it makes sense he’d throw his weight behind the Dodgers‘ postseason run.

After LA advanced past the Giants on Thursday night, the basketball star tweeted his support.

“Keep going,” James tweeted.

The problem? James is a part-owner of the Boston Red Sox. In order to “keep going,” the Dodgers will have to knock Boston out of the playoffs eventually.

Red Sox part-owner LeBron James is rooting for the Dodgers

Back in March, James bought an undisclosed number of shares in Fenway Sports Group, the owners of the Red Sox. He had already been a part-owner of Liverpool FC, another FSG property, so the partnership makes plenty of sense.

This is very clearly a business venture for James, so he doesn’t necessarily owe his allegiance to the Red Sox. Still, it’s pretty funny to see a part-owner actively root for another baseball team while they heading for a huge postseason matchup.

Red Sox fans could be offended, but they already had reason to view James with plenty of skepticism. He grew up a Yankees fan, after all. It’s not like he would have been a friend to Boston before all this. The financial stake only counts for so much.

Plus, he publicly got behind Cleveland during another postseason run while was playing for the Cavaliers. So maybe it’s best not to take his baseball fandom too seriously. Next thing you know, James will be rocking a Rays hat.
