Who took over as the team with the longest active win streak in the nation?

Oklahoma has the longest winning streak in college football

It’s fitting that Oklahoma now has the longest active streak at 14.

First and foremost, the Sooners were on the verge of disaster against Texas, falling behind big to their rivals before battling back in another thrilling edition of the Red River Showdown.

The win over Texas boosted Oklahoma’s streak to 14 games going back to their loss to Iowa State at the start of October last season.

The Sooners now own the active and all-time record. From 1953-57, Oklahoma won 47 straight.

Critically, Alabama’s loss ensured the Crimson Tide won’t be making a run at that impossible record. Then again, even if they had made it through the 2021 season unscathed, the chances of them pulling that off would have been slim. They could have ended the campaign crowned champions with a 29-game run and still would have needed to go another season unbeaten with the opportunity to overtake in 2023.

That’s how thoroughly Oklahoma holds the crown. We’ll see how much longer they can keep the active streak going.
