Texas A&M football: Jimbo Fisher has the craziest buyout you have to see to believe
When Texas A&M football gave Jimbo Fisher a four-year contract extension, they also gave him an absolutely insane buyout.
It’s a good thing Jimbo Fisher is a hit in Texas A&M right now, because they’re not going to move on from him any time soon.
After the Aggies upset No. 1 Alabama, USA Today did some research and revealed the historic nature of Fisher’s buyout.
Jimbo Fisher buyout: Texas A&M owes head coach almost $100 million
Before the 2021 season began, Texas A&M extended Fisher’s contract for another four years, through 2031.
By adding the extra four years on the coach’s contract, the Aggies would now owe Fisher $95.6 million if they fired him without cause this year.
Per USA Today, that’s the biggest buyout in college football history.
Of course, Texas A&M isn’t in danger of activating that buyout. Fisher just delivered the biggest win of his tenure in College Station and things are looking up for the program because of it, despite the two losses that came before.
Intrigue could come over the next few seasons. Ed Orgeron won LSU a national title and is now on the hot seat just two years later. The tides in college football can change very quickly. The Aggies expect Fisher to put them in the national title conversation. Beating Alabama has to be the beginning, not the pinnacle, for that contract to be worth it.
