Twitter can’t believe Kahleah Copper’s incredible game in the WNBA Finals
The Chicago Sky had no mercy on the Phoenix Mercury in the first half of Game 3 of the WNBA Finals as Kahleah Copper went off.
Kahleah Copper played like gold as the Chicago Sky unloaded on the Phoenix Mercury on Friday night.
Both teams came into Game 3 of the WNBA Finals with an eye on breaking the deadlock in the 1-1 series. However, one team had Copper and the other did not.
With a 20-point first half, the All-Star guard scored nearly as much as the opposition while her team built a 22-point lead.
Kahleah Copper stunned basketball Twitter in the WNBA Finals
Twitter was all over Copper’s performance.
Copper has been in the league since 2016 when she was drafted by the Washington Mystics. She was traded to the Sky and got her feet wet with a few years supporting the team off the bench. She came alive in the WNBA bubble in 2020 by leading Chicago in scoring. Then she proved she was no one-year wonder by putting in an All-Star season in 2021.
Now she’s making waves in the NBA Finals against the best of the best.
The Mercury might have been able to handle Cooper’s scoring output if their own stars hadn’t struggled mightily in the first half. Brittney Griner was 1-of-8 while Diana Taurasi was 0-of-2.
The Sky will need to see Copper carry on her outstanding performance in the games that follow in the five-game series. Assuming they hold onto their big lead in Game 3, Chicago will need just one more victory to secure their first-ever championship. In doing so, they’d be avenging their 2014 Finals loss to Phoenix.
This isn’t the end for Phoenix either. The Mercury will be in do-or-die mode with their championship hopes hinging on wins in the next two games.
