SEC football standings, Week 7: Georgia dominating East, Alabama holds West

The best of the best are starting to separate from the rest in the SEC football landscape.

With Week 7 of the 2021 college football season in the books, let’s take a look at how the SEC football division standings are shaping up.

Through seven weeks, only one undefeated team remains, and that is the Georgia Bulldogs. No. 1 Georgia had no problems getting past No. 11 Kentucky at home in the biggest game of the day. Kentucky was already bowl-eligible, but the Wildcats have now suffered their first loss of the season. While that has been settled, things are getting very interesting over in the SEC West.

Here is how the division standings are shaping up midway through the SEC football season.

SEC East Division standings through Week 7

1. Georgia Bulldogs: 5-0 (7-0 overall)
2. Kentucky Wildcats: 4-1 (6-1 overall)
3. Tennessee Volunteers: 2-2 (4-3 overall)
4. Florida Gators: 2-3 (4-3 overall)
5. South Carolina Gamecocks: 1-3 (4-3 overall)
6. Missouri Tigers: 0-3 (3-4 overall)
7. Vanderbilt Commodores: 0-3 (2-5 overall)

With a win over Florida in Jacksonville in two weeks, Georgia will have almost certainly locked up the SEC East division crown before the final week of the regular season. Kentucky is in a great spot to win upwards of seven SEC games, but needs Georgia to drop two now to have any shot of getting to Atlanta. Tennessee has two conference losses, but three in total on the college season.

SEC West Division standings through Week 7

1. Alabama Crimson Tide: 3-1 (6-1 overall)
2. Ole Miss Rebels: 2-1 (5-1 overall)
3. Auburn Tigers: 2-1 (5-2 overall)
4. Texas A&M Aggies: 2-2 (5-2 overall)
5. LSU Tigers: 2-2 (4-3 overall)
6. Mississippi Stae Bulldogs: 1-2 (3-3 overall)
7. Arkansas Razorbacks: 1-3 (4-3 overall)

Alabama has a half-game lead over Ole Miss and Auburn in the division race. While the Crimson Tide have the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Rebels, the only team with three conference losses in the SEC West is the Arkansas Razorbacks who have dropped three in a row since beating Texas A&M in Arlington. The Crimson Tide lead the division, but this race is far from over out West.

Though the East has pretty much been decided, we are a long way away from the West being won.
