Baseball fans are wondering why there is a No. 44 displayed in the Atlanta Braves’ outfield.

Atlanta Braves fans know all about the history behind the No. 44 jersey.

While some baseball fans do not know the significance of that number, anybody in Braves Country will be more than glad to fill you in. That No. 44 proudly displayed in the Truist Park grass during the 2021 NLCS honors the late, great Hank Aaron. “The Home Run King” sadly passed away shortly before the start of this season. He is undoubtedly the greatest player in franchise history.

Braves Country also lost their favorite knuckleballer Phil Niekro and one of their beloved broadcasters Don Sutton since last season, both of whom won 300 games and are legends of the game like Aaron.

Why is there a giant No. 44 in the Atlanta Braves’ outfield?

It is not just that Aaron was the best player in franchise history. He was an unforgettable ambassador to the sport of baseball and the city of Atlanta. His No. 44 jersey is retired by the two big-league clubs he played for: Atlanta and the Milwaukee Brewers. Though the No. 44 may only be in the outfield for the rest of the season, Braves Country may want to keep it there for good.

So the No. 44 displayed in centerfield at Truist Park is all about the Braves honoring Aaron.
